Literacy and Communication remains an area of the curriculum that is always a priority within the targets set in the School Development Plan each year.  Over the past few years the following developments have taken place within the area of language and literacy: -

Linguistic Phonics programme is used throughout the school.

The Signature Project, which was introduced in 2014, enabled children from Year 5, Year 6 and Year 7 to access support in this area.

The school library has been restocked with new reading material to provide breadth in children's reading experiences. Children also enjoy weekly visits to the local library in Castlederg.

Teachers continually level children's work in communication, linked with cross curricular skills.

All teachers have created communication tasks and topic work which correspond with levels of progression.

An accelerated reading programme for Key Stage Two children has been introduced in the school year 2015/2016.

This programme enables children to read independently. When the children have read a book, they then go online and complete a series of questions to test their comprehension and understanding of the book.
